Broadwater is a village in Morrill County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 140 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, Broadwater has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 140 people, 68 households, and 42 families residing in the village. The population density was 898.6 people per square mile (337.8/km²). There were 81 housing units at an average density of 519.9 per square mile (195.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.29% White, 0.71% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.43% of the population.

There were 68 households out of which 23.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.2% were non-families. 36.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.06 and the average family size was 2.69.

In the village the population was spread out with 21.4% under the age of 18, 3.6% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 25.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $25,156, and the median income for a family was $26,563. Males had a median income of $27,500 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the village was $14,568. There were 4.0% of families and 12.6% of the population living below the poverty line, including 20.6% of under eighteens and 20.0% of those over 64.
